Why does my child wet their pants during the day?

There can be many reasons why your boy or girl wets themselves. But it is rarely due to psychological problems, as was previously thought. It can, for example, be due to constipation, urinary tract infection, or an overactive bladder. There are also some who have trouble holding water when they laugh (so-called giggle incontinence). Finally, accidents can simply happen when your child is very absorbed in exciting play.

Fortunately, there’s a lot you can do to help your child stop wetting themselves. Find all the good advice and useful links under Children and incontinence.

What is a typical treatment course for my child?

Over 3 days, a fluid and urination chart must be filled out so that it can be measured how much the child drinks and how much it urinates. Then a functional examination is performed of how the bladder works, and the bladder is scanned to see if it empties properly. Finally, the urine is examined for sugar content and bacteria. How does the vibration watch work?

The vibration watch can be set to vibrate 8–12 times per day depending on the model. The watch is configured directly on the device. When it vibrates on the child’s arm, the child simply presses a single button to stop the vibration. The watch can remind the child to go to the toilet. Besides vibrating, the watches can also make a sound.

What is the vibration watch made of?

Some watches have leather straps and others have silicone straps. The watches are CE-certified, which means they comply with EU standards and thus protect the consumer from products that may be dangerous or harmful. The watch is not suitable for water. See our smart vibration watches here.

Are there incontinence underwear for nighttime?

Fortunately, there are. Those from Pjama can absorb quite a lot, up to 600 ml for the largest size. The pants make it possible to stay overnight with friends, even if you are a bedwetter. The pants are waterproof and breathable and can be washed at 60 degrees. The night pants are oeko-tex certified. Pjama also has an absorbent model that can be used together with an alarm so the child can be weaned off bedwetting. There are also models from Rodger, which do not have absorbent ability but are suitable for weaning the child off bedwetting using an alarm and sensor in the night pants. Products for the night are seen here.

How do I help my child stop wetting the bed?

Be patient. Wait until the child is 7-8 years old before taking special measures. Do not scold. Limit fluid intake 1-2 hours before bedtime. Avoid soda and tea in the evening. Have the child urinate just before bedtime. Use possibly a bedwetting alarm that wakes the child at the first drops of urine and alerts the parents. Using an alarm has a high success rate but requires consistent use and support from adults. Products for the night are seen here.

My child is going to a camp but wets the bed – what do I do?

This is not a pleasant situation for the child, but unfortunately very familiar. The child can of course sleep with a diaper under loose sleep shorts. Alternatively, there are shorts with sewn-in absorbent material from the manufacturer Pjama. We sell those here.
